Wee Little Voices

I love how kids talk. Their sweaky little voices bordering on squawky. Especially my two. Their little voices and their little conversations are something I wish I could preserve forever. I’ve often thought about trying to record some of their cuter moments with a tape recorder or camcorder. But about the time I think of it, the cute moment is gone. I need one of those spy cams like undercover cops use.

One thing I love the most is the terminology of my wee ones. For Jake (now 6.5) his was always creative pronunciations of animals. For the longest time octopuses were “apple-pusses”, bass were “bask”, and zebras were “swebas“. I still call those animals by those made up names in front of him.

Drives him nuts.

Then there’s Sara-boo. Thirty pounds of spunk and true ruler of the Kingdom. In her repertoire of cute sayings (my personal fav)is calling her feet “beets” and the plural version would be “buutz“. Too cute. And when she breaks wind, and I ask “what was that?”…she always confidently responds “that was my butt“.

Can’t argue with that.

And let us not forget her beloved sippy cup a.k.a “dwink“. Dwink goes with us everywhere. I am fairly certain Sara will never break a bone because it seems she drinks about 40 gallons of milk a week. When she loses her sippy, she will prowl the house calling out, Dwink! Where are you?! Dwink!”

Reuniting is a joyous occasion.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I need a cup of cwawfee and a knack. :)

Haha! Children give the most interesting answers to one’s questions! Happy SITS Saturday Sharefest!

I love those made up words, I always say that I need a camera in my forehead so that I can flick it on whenever I want to record my boys’ cuteness! I am fairly certain I would pick up things that I’m too busy or flabbergasted to notice, too. Sadly.

That’s adorable! I love how she calls to ‘Dwink’ like it’s an actual person who will respond! Hilarious!

How true! My favorite thing the 3 year old I nanny for is “Flaw Flaw Blace Let”. (flower bracelet) :)

We still use ‘boons’ instead of spoons (because that’s what my 13 y/o said when she was 2) and we still answer “don’t know either” when asked a question. (same daughter, a little older, when we’d ask “what color is this?” or something similar, she’d say, “don’t know either” – like we were really seeking information. So stinkin’ cute.)

So cute! I agree! My son called his teddy bear, “bay-go” when he 2. I don’t know but now that he’s 7, he hates when I still call it that. It will always be “bay-go” to me.

Our family still uses a lot of kid words around here, like “lellow” instead of “yellow.” Every once in a while a kid will ask, “Why do we call it that?” and I’ll tell them, “Because you did,” and then they roll their eyes at how dorky their mother is. Oh, well…they’ll get it when they have kids of their own.

I love kid mispronunciations! I know they say you’re supposed to repeat it correctly back to them but that’s nonsense and no fun at all. I like using the kid terms way better! :)

But, what will you do if they start to use the word “luncheon”? ;)

Love ‘kidspeak’! I’ve often thought of recording Princess Nagger talking that way, but alas, like you, by the time I get the camcorder the moment has passed. She’s 6.5 and still comes up with some cuteness, but tends to correct us more often than not. For some reason she doesn’t like me reminding her she used to call a ‘bathing suit’ a ‘baby snoot’. *sigh* She’s growing up too fast! :)

We’ve been terrible about videoing anything. Your post makes me think I need to do that more. That stuff is so freakin’ cute!

What a great reminder. When I am not wanting to rip my hair out from trying so hard to understand and encourage and validate every utterance(from our older boy who struggles in speech), its all very cute. He calls Simon the dog Dah-mon and his favorite color is AR-john. I want to always remember this, just as I do the feel of his soft, sweet, tiny trusting hand in mine. Tomorrow’s blog for sure
