12 Things I Want to Accomplish This Year

1. Lose Weight! (but there’s a rumor going around that I need to exercise and eat right to do that..WTF?)
2. Pinpoint the “thing”..the “direction” I need to go to get my business dream off the ground.
3. Like my day job again. And that’s all I got to say about that.
4. Add an extra bathroom in the basement of our house. One biffy for four people just ain’t working. I’m on the verge of making the boys pee outside in the woods.
5. Win an award. I don’t care for what…I just want to win an award!
6. Morph one or both my blogs into something that not only helps working Moms, but adds another stream of income to our life.
7. Get fit and healthy enough to do the March of Dimes Walk for Babies march in 2010.

Blanket Party

What is it with little kids and blankets? It is so fascinating to watch the reaction of my rugrats if I do something as simple as spread a big blanket on the floor. They squeal in delight. Jump, leap , and roll on it like a pair on new puppies on fresh green grass. The thing that had been in a lump in the corner of the living room suddenly becomes an pond to swim in, an island, the perfect spot for a pretend picnic. Gotta love that creativity and joy. In the 6 year we have been parents, I’ve noticed that it’s difficult to be crabby while doing certain “kid activities”. One is playing Play Doh. Another is skipping (ever seen any frowning skippers?….me either) and the third is rolling with wild abandon on soft fuzzy blanket in the middle of the floor (ignoring the Ketchup stains from the last pretend picnic). Wow. How swell it would be if life was just that simple. Maybe I should take this philosophy to work? Think of how joyful my day could be if I could step back from the last three crabby customer calls and leisurely fashion a set of Play Doh dishes and cups. If I had time I could make Play Doh noodles and peas and have my own pretend picnic. On my warm fuzzy blanket, of course. Or I as stagger out of the Monday-morning-suck-the-life-from-my-body managers meeting, I could simply SKIP back to my office. If I was really feeling frisky, I could take my next few calls sitting Indian style having a juice and cracker snack. Ok, maybe not Indian style. Last time I did that I thought I was gonna have to call Peterson Towing to unstick my 43-year old legs and get me off the floor. But maybe I should take a lesson from from the 3-foot-tall people in my life and relish some of the simpler things. In fact I think I will start right now. Pass the animal crackers and Legos please.

Kids are amazing aren’t they? Our dining room table has been a fort all week. They just love reading books, pretending to be puppies, and having snacks under the blankets! Maybe you could bring the blanket your kids played with to work with you, put it on the back of your chair (folded normally of course) and it could be a reminder to you when you return to your desk after the managers meetings…

Embracing those moments with you SITSta!
